By By and Welcome Back Next Year

Now the 6th Ticino Saling Week Laser Europacup organized by the Circolo Velico lago di Lugano is over.
We had 4 days with intensive racing with 90 boats in different conditions; 3 days racing in good thermic winds from south and 1 day have heavy sailing with the strong north wind blowing on average 20-25 knots with some gusts up to 30 knots.
In this 4 days we sailed 7 races in the gulf of Lugano.

Remarkable results of the Croation sailors dominating the podiums of the 4.7 Kljenak Fillip and the standard fleet Taritas Ivan.
In the Radial fleet the SLO sailor Stanisic Dany won the last race and gained the top position at the ranking.

We are also very pleased with the 3rd place of the SUI sailors in Nathalie Brugger in the Radial fleet and Max Bully in the Standard fleet.

For us organizers this event is every year a milestone in our schedule. It’s the first big event of the year where all the volunteers, approximately 30 work together for 5 days, a big thank you to all of them.

The Lido was an excellent location to run such an event. In a few months our new club will be hopefully finished. I’m asking myself if we would rather stay at the lido for next year instead the new club?

During this days we took a lot of photos which are now available to be downloaded, go and take a look.

We also had a professional photographer Roberto Ghidoni on the race course, you will find his pictures and contact details on his site

Before closing this year I also would like to thank you all the sponsors, without this support there wouldn’t be such an event.

From now on we will maintain this site to inform you about the current standing of the preparation work for next year.

Looking forward to see you and many more laser sailors next year.

Last task the price given and the the closing work.

In the next days we will post a the pictures we took in the past days, specially the one from yesterday.

Day 3: It pays off !

What a day, you would spend evening after evening writing emails, phone calls, meetings and so on, in order to organize the “Laser Europa Cup”.
And then you get up in the morning very impatient, due to the good weather forecast of the day before and yes, it is blowing from the right direction. Not strong, but the feeling is good.
After a cup of coffee at the club, you go out on the water and start to lay down the course.
Then, we decided to go a bit more down in the valley as the wind would be more constant there.
It was already blowing with 15 knots, but I was sure that it would increase.
All the boats were doing their warm-up, the first capsized laser were already laying around.
And it started to blow, strong steady short waves were building up.
The course is now down, not an easy task with 300 meter ground and the starting procedure has been launched.
Hopfully all the marks stay in position. Tactics, it looks like, the left side is favored but at the weather marked there are some gusts coming from the right side.
In a few minutes we will see what's faster, the left or the right.
Bang…..standards were gone, bang...... Radial too.
We took a look up to the course to the standard fleet which is divided in two groups. One group was heading to the right and the other to the left, pressure on the lefts seems stronger. Bang ….. 4.7 are on the course, too.
We hurried up at the weather mark to see what was going on there, and yes the right side paid. Nice lead for the guys.
Now, this is the reason why it makes sense to spend evening after evening organizing the event. In the meantime we are having some gusts up to almost 30 knots….
Enjoy the pictures…

Stay tuned!

What happen with the old Club in Lugano

Hi all
For those who are not the first time at the Lugano Laser Europacup you will be surprised how much the area has changed. In one of the past articles we asked you not to go to the club with your cars and trailers but directly to the lido. Here you have some pictures wich explan a few things.
During the racing days we may organize a short guided tour in the new building
In the past week we took some pictures about the new situation in the club...enjoy.

Sail Number and Boat Number

Dear sailors

Please note that some sailors have registered in the Laser Europacup with duplicated sail numbers, who can’t be accepted at the registration on site in Lugano in accordance with the class rules.
In exceptional cases we may accept sail numbers different from the boat number but not duplicated numbers even if in different classes for logistical reasons.
This request shall be submitted to the International Jury on site who will decide on this subject.

Also please consider that:
Only current fully paid members of the International Laser Class Association may enter the regatta. During registration each sailor will be required to show clear written evidence of current membership of his or her national Laser Association.

Best regards
